Total loss of your final bid
Unless you are the highest bidder when the auction ends, you pay your full final bid and receive nothing. Most participants lose. This is the intended design of the game, not an edge case.
Reserve and credit
Each auction has a reserve. If all final bids together stay below it, nobody wins and every final bid becomes credit that can only be spent on future bids on this site. Credit cannot be withdrawn and fees are not returned. If the site stops operating, unused credit cannot be recovered.
Escalation
Auctions of this type commonly close above the market value of the prize. Each bid can feel rational in the moment while the combined outcome is a large loss.
